AUTONOMOUS PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES (PRIORITY COUNTRY)

Completed Project (2006): “Protracted Relief Operation for Non-Refugee Palestinians” in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme. The project’s aim was to finance the provision of food to vulnerable groups of the population like street children, orphans, elder persons, pregnant women, disabled persons etc. The contribution of Cyprus to the project (€280,000) was used to cover the provision of food supplies to 100 participating Palestinian institutions for the last three months of 2006.

It should be noted that during the "Palestine Donors Conference", that took place on 17th of December, 2007 in Paris, the Cyprus Government pledged the amount of 2 million U.S Dollars as assistance to the Palestinian people, to be distributed during the period 2008-2010. The pledge has been fully met (for details of the activities undertaken by the Cyprus Government, during that period of time, please click here).


The projects implemented during the period 2008-2010, are listed herebelow:

Completed Project (2008--2009): “Support to Municipal Development and Management in the Gaza Middle Area (SMDMIII) 2007-2009” in partnership with the Government of Denmark. The contribution of CyprusAid was used for the construction of sewage network and different roads in Al-Bureij and Al Maghazi Municipalities. The total contribution of CyprusAid to this project amounted to €420.000.

Completed Project (2009): “EMOP 10817.0 Emergency Food Assistance for Operation Lifeline Gaza”, in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme. The project’s aim was to finance the provision of food to vulnerable groups of the population. The contribution of CyprusAid (€143,620) was used to assist an estimated of 67,000 beneficiaries.


Completed Project (2009): PRRO 10387.1 Targeted Assistance for Relief, Support to Productive Activities and Skills Development for Vulnerable Non-Refugee Palestinians”, in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme. The contribution of CyprusAid to the project (€230.000), was used to finance the provision of approximately 522 tons of locally milled wheat, to approximately 60,290 beneficiaries for one month, through intervention (iv) ''recovery through support for productive activities and skills development'', which included activities food-for-work and food-for training.


Completed project (2010): “Development Cooperation concerning Palestinian Civil Police Development Programme”, in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Project Services – UNOPS. The objective of the programme was the establishment of a transparent and accountable police organization with a clearly identified role, operating within a sound legal framework, capable of delivering an effective and robust policing service responsive to the needs of society and able to manage effectively its human and physical resources. The total Cyprus contribution to the programme amounted to €150,000.


Completed Project (2010): “PRRO 200037 Protracted Relief and Recovery Operations - Occupied Palestinian Territory”, in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme. The contribution of CyprusAid to the project (€360,000), was used to finance the provision of food vouchers of the value of USD 12 per person/per month, for the purchase of food from the local market, to approximately 5,000 food insecure non-refugee Palestinian families (or approximately 35,000 beneficiaries) for one month. The intervention took place in February 2011, in the areas Nablus, Qalqilia, Yatta, Hebron and Jenin of the West Bank.
