CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES

Ongoing project (2012): “Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) project on Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainable Land Management in the Eastern Caribbean”. The project is financed by the European Commission (10 mln Euros) and the Republic of Cyprus (0.6 mln Euros).

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the achievement of the provisions enshrined in Article 24 of the Revised Treaty of Basseterre, that each Protocol Member State shall implement the St. George’s Declaration of Principles for Environmental Sustainability which seeks to, inter-alia, achieve the long-term protection and sustained productivity of the region’s natural resource base and the ecosystem services it provides.

The immediate purpose of the project is to improve the region’s natural resource base resilience to the impacts of climate change through the following two components:
A) Effective and sustainable land management frameworks and practices;
B) Specific physical adaptation pilot projects in relevant areas or sectors.
